November is Native American Heritage Month

For thousands of years, the mountains, woods, deserts and rivers of New Mexico have been home to Native American people.  Enduring, Native tribes in New Mexico and across the continent have ultimately continued to work to preserve their culture, traditions, and way of life for many generations. New Mexico is home to sovereign Native nations including nineteen Pueblos, three Apache tribes and the Navajo or Diné Nation.

November is Native American Heritage Month, and we’d like to acknowledge the artisans and families that Sunwest has worked with for over 40 years.

New Mexico’s Native American silversmiths and artisans create unique works that are recognized and sought after around the world. Often sharing traditional methods passed down over many generations, Native artists continue to contribute their skills, talent, and energy to the communities around them.

Learning about New Mexico’s Native people is best done through the people themselves, and there are generous opportunities to do so if you are visiting the Land of Enchantment. Click here for information on visiting Pueblos and Tribal lands in New Mexico.

Native American Heritage Month was created as a landmark Bill honoring the Native Americans of the United States. In New Mexico, we share a love and respect for the gifts of the Native people and for their traditions and culture, and we are pleased to celebrate Native American Heritage Month and to take time out to say Thank You to the artists and their families that we work with at Sunwest and to say that we are also thinking of the many Nations across the country and their communities.

We hope everyone has a chance to get out to local events, check out some info online and participate in honoring the Native People this November and always.
